Before connecting anything, run through this quick safety checklist to protect both your vehicle and yourself.
💡 Pro Tip: Our smart clamps will beep an alarm if you connect reverse polarity – you can’t go wrong. But following these steps adds an extra layer of safety.
Safety Checklist:
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for. Follow these 5 simple steps in order.
⚠️ CRITICAL REMINDER: “Connect First, THEN Power On” – This is the #1 mistake beginners make! Modern smart jump packs require you to connect the clamps to the battery before pressing the power button.
Locate your car battery. Look for the positive terminal – it’s usually marked with a red cover or a “+” symbol.
DO NOT connect the black clamp directly to the negative battery terminal – this can create sparks near the battery, which emits flammable hydrogen gas.
Instead:
Why this matters: Connecting to ground instead of the negative terminal significantly reduces spark risk and protects your vehicle’s sensitive ECU (engine computer).
Press and hold the Power / Boost button for 2-3 seconds – not just a quick tap.
You should see a green “Ready” light illuminate, confirming the unit is delivering power to the battery.
⚠️ This is where most beginners fail! Without pressing the ON button, no current flows to your dead battery. If you connect everything and the engine doesn’t crank, this is almost certainly the issue.
If it doesn’t start on the first try:
Once your engine is running smoothly:
Never yank the clamps – twist gently to release them.
Here are common issues and how to solve them. If you’re still stuck, our support team is here to help.
Q1: My jump pack is fully charged, but the green “Ready” light won’t turn on when clamped.
A: Your car battery may be below 2V – which is considered “completely dead.” On some models, you’ll need to press and hold the “Override” or “Force Start” button for 5 seconds to bypass the safety check.

Q2: My engine is a 3.5L V6 (or a diesel truck), and it cranks slowly but won’t start.
A: Your engine may need more starting power than the jump pack is delivering. Larger gasoline engines, and especially diesel engines, require higher peak amperage due to higher compression ratios.
Solution: Check your jump pack specifications. If you drive a V6/V8 SUV, truck, or any diesel vehicle, you’ll want a jump pack with 2000A peak or higher.

Q3: The clamps sparked a little – is my car damaged?
A: Small sparks are normal when connecting clamps – it’s the capacitor charging up. However, if you see large sparks or arcing, it may indicate a poor connection or corrosion.
If you’re worried about spark risks: Our Smart Clamp Series features full spark-proof technology with built-in surge protection and reverse polarity alarms – designed specifically for safety-conscious drivers.
Q4: The clamps don’t seem to grip properly.
A: Check your battery terminals. If you see a white, blue, or green powdery substance around the terminals, that’s corrosion – and it’s blocking the electrical connection.

A jump pack is an investment. Here’s how to make it last:
Jump packs are powerful tools, but they can’t fix everything.
Do NOT attempt to jump-start if you notice:
Jump-starting with a portable jump pack is safe, simple, and takes under 3 minutes – once you know the right steps.
